Born in September 13th, 1957, in Beira, Mozambique, Marita Ferreira arrived in Portugal by the end of 1974, when she was 17 years old. Two years later she started to publish her poems and short stories on local newspapers and magazines. She also began to work as a journalist for a small Cascais newspaper, "A Nossa Terra". Her first ehxibit took place in 1981, during a short period of vacation in Algarve. She worked both as journalist and painter since then. In 2004 she published "The Whale Who Caught A Cold And Other Stories", a book of short stories for children she wrote for the kid's magazine of "Correio da Manhã", a national newspaper. She lives now with her 18 year old daughter in Madalena, a small place in Vila Nova de Gaia, South of Oporto.
